Rod damage splits into two jobs that share almost nothing. A tip top that snaps off gets glued on in minutes; a guide that's been crushed against a gunwale or pulled loose has to be unwrapped, replaced, wrapped again and epoxied. This is the only kit here that handles both, and that's exactly why it's our default — you don't have to diagnose the failure before you order.
Nine tip tops span 1.8 to 4.0 mm in tube diameter, which covers everything from a light spinning rod up to a heavy casting rod. The eight double-foot guides run from 3.8 to 17.8 mm ring inner diameter, so there's a stripper guide in there as well as running guides. Alongside them: two-part epoxy, wrapping thread, brushes, mixing cups and tape. We have opened enough complete kits that turned out to be a bag of tips to appreciate that the finishing supplies are genuinely present.
What settled it for us is the arithmetic of a first repair. A beginner standing over a broken rod usually can't tell yet whether the guide frame survived, and a tip-only kit sends you back to the computer for a second order. A little more money for the guide assortment is the difference between one purchase and two, and between fishing this weekend and next.
Two things to plan around. The epoxy is a two-part mix that needs a full cure, so this is an evening-before-the-trip repair rather than a boat-ramp one: mix it, wrap it, leave it alone overnight. The resin also ships in a soft pouch rather than a rigid bottle, which is worth decanting before the kit lives in a tackle box for a season.

- Enough epoxy and thread for several rods
Cons

The kit we tell people to buy when they don't yet know what will break: nine tips, eight guides, epoxy, and thread in one box.
