Two galvanized steps with anti-slip grip tape are the whole pitch here, and that is enough. The Extreme Max 3006.6812 bolts to a 3 x 4 inch trailer tongue and gives you an intermediate landing between the ground and the boat, which is exactly the point when the ramp is wet and your hands are full. The offset platforms are wide enough to stand on with both feet, not just perch on.
What we like is how little thought it demands. It is heavy, permanently mounted, and finished for weather, so there is no pin to seat and no adjustment to recheck before every launch. The grip tape is already on the steps, and the galvanized surface is the right choice for a trailer that gets dunked. For a standard tongue and a boater who wants a permanent two-step, this is the best balance of cost and solidity in the group.
The fit is the catch. It is listed for a 3 x 4 inch frame, not a universal clamp, so measure the tongue before you order. Installation is a bolt-on job with the included hardware, though the 20.4-pound assembly is easier to handle with a helper holding it in place while you start the bolts. If your frame is a different size, look at the Aupar or one of the adjustable steps instead.
Pros
- Two wide galvanized steps
- Anti-slip grip tape already applied
- Permanent bolt-on with no adjustment
Cons
- No handrail for balance
For most trailer tongues, this two-step galvanized unit is the sturdy, no-drama default we recommend.
