Three lengths, five of each, is what puts this pack at the top of our list. A 7-inch leader keeps the action on a small spinner or crankbait, the 9-inch is the all-day length for pike and walleye, and the 12-inch gives a swimbait or a trolled plug room to swim. A single-length box forces a compromise between those three jobs; this one doesn't.
Hardware is where a wire leader earns its keep, and this is the cleanest we handled at the light end. The snaps close positively and the swivels turn freely enough that a spinner doesn't twist the line above it. Our one gripe is the clip: the latch is small and stiff, and cold, wet fingers will fumble a treble hook onto it. That stiffness is also why it holds, since a snap that opens easily for you opens easily for a fish.
What this is not is heavy gear. It is light-to-medium wire for pike, walleye, bass and schoolie bluefish, and it has no business in front of a jetty fish with shoulders. Treated as the pack that lives in the boat for a season, it earns its spot, because a mixed box means you never cut a 12-inch leader down to fish a 7-inch lure.
Pros
- Three lengths cover lures, bait and trolling
- Snaps and swivels stay closed under load
- Well-finished crimps and consistent hardware
Cons
- Only 15 leaders per pack
- Small, stiff clips are fiddly with cold hands
We recommend this pack to anyone who wants finished leaders in three useful lengths with hardware that holds; buy heavier wire only if your fish run past the mid-teens.
